Which businesses need to follow NIST Compliance?

Cybersecurity is at the forefront of our minds and those of our clients. As your Managed IT Services company, our role is to ensure systems at your business are updated and secure. That means thwarting attacks from hackers and ensuring compliance standards for your industry are met. This includes the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) which has developed cybersecurity standards and best practices for industry, federal agencies, and the public. Their work is constantly evolving and now includes NIST SP 800 171 Compliance which I discuss later in this article.

Which businesses need to follow NIST Compliance?

NIST Compliance documents are for companies working in the federal supply chain. This includes anyone involved with federal government and agencies, including contractors and subcontractors. Because of the quality of NIST regulations, companies outside the federal government supply chain are also embracing the standards.

The goal of the standards is to protect data and keep information secure. This protects organizations from inside threats as well as outside breaches. NIST Compliance is the cybersecurity standard that our team understands and implements for our clients.

What is NIST SP 800 171 Compliance?

This is a Special Publication that outlines the requirements for protecting the confidentiality of controlled unclassified information. Also called CUI, this includes provisions for the protection of covered defense information. If a manufacturer is a part of the Department of Defense, General Services Administration (GSA), NASA, or other federal or state supply chains, they are also required to follow NIST SP 800 171 compliance.

Just as fast as hackers are learning to breach systems, the government is providing and updating cybersecurity guidelines. If your business plans to work with federal agencies, it is recommended that you start complying with regulations now, so you’re not eliminated from contention later.

At Panurgy, our team is experienced in NIST Compliance. We are also aware that the standards change, and we are anticipating more updates this year. If your business is concerned about protecting data and is working, or plans to work, with the federal government supply chain, we’d love to talk to you.

We will begin with an assessment of your current cybersecurity and develop a NIST compliance plan to ensure your company is ready to work in the supply chain. Our team understands NIST compliance along with HIPAA and others. Call us to learn more.

Improve Employee Engagement with an IT Help Desk (and more!)

Have you ever felt like your job wasn’t important? Have you struggled to understand how your job fits in with the big goals of the company? Are you a manager looking for effective ways to ignite employee interest? At Panurgy, we know that to improve employee engagement, businesses need to solve technical issues in a timely manner. Many are choosing IT services that include an IT Help Desk as part of their employee engagement planning.

Improve Employee Engagement with an IT Help Desk (and more!)

Years ago, I worked for a company that sent an employee survey. One of the questions asked was whether we had the tools we needed to do our jobs. At the time, it was clear that we did not have the technology where it needed to be. Tower computers and 5+ year old laptops needed to be replaced. Security on important client files needed passwords. There was much to do technology-wise and managers either had their hands tied or just didn’t care. It was disheartening to say the least, but it doesn’t have to be this way for your employees. Here are ways to improve employee engagement with an IT Help Desk and more.

  1. Recognition. Don’t give the awards to the same people and departments all the time. It makes the people who don’t receive them feel excluded. As a result, they will not be focused and will eventually leave the company if you don’t push them out first. Their performance has more to do with being recognized for a job well done than their actual job. Make them feel important.
  2. Communication. Employees love to feel like they are in-the-know about the company. Communicate in writing, verbal announcements, and video so that all learning styles are recognized, and everyone feels like they are part of a team that matters. Ask managers to explain how each job is part of the whole of the company and how what each person does impacts the other departments.
  3. IT Help Desk. Just like I wanted the tools I needed to do my job, so do you and your employees. An IT Help Desk will go a long way to helping employees with common problems like email issues, security system updates, and password changes. Give employees the power to seek solutions on their own by providing an IT help desk that can address their immediate problems.

As an IT Services company, we talk to employees who are seeking solutions to everyday business problems. One of the ways to keep employees engaged is to provide an IT help desk where our team of experts can address problems, so you don’t have to. For more information, contact Panurgy today!

Cost Savings

Sometimes it doesn’t make financial sense to hire more IT employees. The employee search and onboarding process can take weeks or even months. During that time, your team is missing the expertise and leadership our Co-Managed IT Services team brings to the table.

By adding to your company’s knowledge without being an employee, we prevent your business from having to pay full-time benefits while you get the same expertise needed to move the organization forward. We also offer flat-rate pricing which means you will always know what our service costs every month. That alone takes the worry from the bottom line.

Patch and Asset Management

Whether online or in-house, we offer our service so your IT team can offload the more mundane infrastructure management to focus on more complicated tasks. We take care of end-user devices, for example, so your team can focus on strategic initiatives.

We supply scalable solutions depending on what your business needs today and in the future. Whether it’s a busy season or business is growing, we offer the technology and implementation expertise to support growth and build efficient systems and processes.

On-call Experts

When your IT team is overwhelmed or isn’t sure how to solve a tech issue, we’re here for you. Outlook isn’t working correctly. Server errors. The Internet is sketchy but you’re not sure why. These are a few of the reasons we get calls. Give yourself and your team a break when you hire Panurgy for Co-Managed IT Services.

We care about your business as much as you do. We’re here to learn where there are successes, challenges, and changes in order to build and manage improved systems. Co-Managed IT Services are meant to be a partnership with you and your current IT team. While we can do some work remotely, there may be times when we need to work in-house with key players in order to solve tech issues. Consider us your on-call experts who can take the stress of day-to-day technology management out of your hands so you can focus on strategy.

Why IT Services is Important and Urgent

When we were in school, we studied the Eisenhower Matrix. Also called the Urgent-Important Matrix, it was designed to determine which tasks needed to be completed first, which could wait, and which could be delegated. As professionals, we understand you can easily be distracted by all of the urgent requests, forgetting, or not having time to review the tasks that are important, but not urgent. We’re here today to tell you that IT Services should be an important AND urgent task and here are a few reasons why.

IT Services – Important and Urgent

  1. Cybersecurity. Whether it’s spam calls and emails or hackers holding data for ransom, it is important for your New Jersey business to stay up to date on security issues and solutions. While we don’t know when the next cyberattack will happen, we know hackers are working around the clock and around the world attempting to steal what isn’t theirs. Don’t let your business be next.
  2. Educating Employees. It is urgent and important that IT Services professionals be educating employees on what to look for when it comes to security risks. The Panurgy Employee Security Awareness Training will educate and test employee awareness of phishing schemes and other potential security breaches. Afterall, they are part of the security of your business so their education matters.
  3. Co-Managed IT Services. We understand that many businesses already have an IT person or team in place, but from time to time, they may need additional support. Special projects, product launches, security breaches, and more are reasons your team may need Co-Managed IT Services. Working together, we can accomplish the technology goal or solve the problem.
  4. Compliance. We currently support businesses in the automotive, construction, finance, healthcare, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, real estate and property management and retail industries. Each has their own level of security and compliance with which we are experts. These include HIPAA, FINRA, and other compliance standards. Being out of compliance should not be a concern. Protecting client and patient data should be an important and urgent task for the IT Services team.
  5. Support. Getting your business the tech support it needs should always be at the top of the list. Without the proper technology in place, you’re risking the entire organization. Employee engagement and business reputation decrease when systems aren’t in place to serve customers. Compliance violations can become headline news, damaging your reputation and costing the business in fines. Don’t let that happen to the business you’ve worked hard to build.

Panurgy is ready to partner with you for all the important and urgent tasks like being secure and compliant, all the way to make sure email is working for all employees. We’re here for your New Jersey IT Support Services. Contact us today to learn more.

Advantages of Switching to VoIP Services Provider

The advantages of moving from traditional phone service, also called PSTN, to VoIP are the reason businesses are making the change. In fact, it has been reported that 61% of businesses are moving from Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). In a world that is mobile and digitized, it’s easier, and more affordable, to have internet phones.

What are the advantages of switching to a VoIP services provider?

Businesses like yours need a simple and cost-effective way to handle phone communications. Whether it’s internal or external, or even international calls, a VoIP services provider can support your team. The advantages include the following.

  1. Simple Installation. Rather than landlines which include a set up fee, additional copper wiring, and the price tag that goes with that, VoIP installation is simple. With just a router, modem, and a phone, your business can be up and running.
  2. Set up Support. At Panurgy, we aren’t just a VoIP services provider that sets up your phones and leaves you in the dust. We stay and help with programming so the system complements business processes, and voicemail and other features ready to go for your team.
  3. Less cost for calls. An average landline costs about $42 per line plus long distance and international calling rates. VoIP on the other hand, costs $20-40 per user, per month and typically offers unlimited calling in the United States and Canada. Plans may also include faxing to email which some businesses utilize.
  4. Compatible with mobile devices. VoIP comes with an app that makes it compatible with mobile devices. That means you can work anywhere there is internet access. You can be away from the office or working from a home office and still make and receive calls on your work line.
  5. Scalability. Adding traditional phone lines can get expensive, but adding VoIP lines is easy. Once your business has service, your VoIP services provider can change or add phone lines to the existing network. There is no need for new physical lines to be installed because it’s all on the internet.

Lastly, Panurgy can manage the switch and your phone system on your behalf. That’s less time spent handling vendors and figuring out how to change from office to a remote office. We’re here for you when you’re ready!
